crafty + social time [Apr. 18th, 2011|07:33 pm]
Craft in Portland!

(Mods, please delete if this isn't okay!)

Just wanted to let folks know about Community Craft Night at the Pendleton Woolen Mill Store -- the third Wednesday of the month, we keep the store open late for folks to bring a project-in-progress by and have some social time while they work!

April 20th is the next Community Craft Night -- that's this coming Wednesday -- 5-7pm. No need to RSVP or anything.

Pendleton Woolen Mill Store
8500 SE McLoughlin Blvd.
Portland OR 97222

And if you've never visited the store, it's a fun place! (Okay, I may be a wee bit biased since I work there...) :)

Craft in Portland!

[mood |excitedexcited]

Tomorrow (7/20/10) is the official launch day of the new online news source: EnzymePDX. EnzymePDX will cover a wide array of topics that are important to people living in and around Portland, focusing on current events, biking, technology, the environment, urban living, fine arts and sustainability. We're striving to create an online presence that informs, but also embraces our readers to share thoughts and experiences and to become part of the overall Portland community.

I am the staff videographer, and I'll be producing all the video packages that will be shown online. The website goes live tomorrow, but our enzymepdx LJ group is currently open to receiving members. Our corporate site is Enzyme Media and you can find some information about us there.

in search of: hand dyed silk ribbon [Jun. 22nd, 2010|09:00 pm]
Craft in Portland!

Hi craftykids,

I am in search of nice, hand-dyed SILK ribbon with finished edges to use as lacing for my wedding dress that I'm working on. I bought some online, only to realize that the bias-cut edges aren't finished! There's no way this will stand up to being dragged through the metal lacing rings and then cinched up tight - the edges fray! GAH!

I could easily find satin ribbon that would work, but I have my heart set on something more "organic". The dress is a shade darker than the absinthe in my user pic, and I'm looking for a gold or orange tones for the ribbon. Anyone know where I can find such a treat in town??

Craft in Portland!

Just thought I would share. I'm not sure if this has been posted yet. You can preorder the most awesome CrapHound. It's very useful for collage art, zines, rubber stamping, and general craftiness. I hope this is okay to post. CrapHound is a fundraiser to keep our local independent zine/comic/book store Reading Frenzy open.

Sewing Machine Woes [Jul. 17th, 2009|07:46 pm]
Craft in Portland!

I have a vintage Morse Zig-Zag seiwng machine. About a month ago, my presser foot came off during a project. I didn't think anything of it, since the screw holding it onto the presser foot bar probably just came loose over time. So I screwed it back on, and noticed that the needle alignment seemed to be off. The needle was aligned more to the left, than to the center. The machine still worked fine, so I didn't think much of it, almost wondering if it had been that way the entire time, and just didn't notice.

Well, tonight I finally got around to using my ruffler attachment for the first time, and I realized that something is definitely off, since the needle does not line up with the hole for the ruffler, making it impossible to even use the ruffler

I checked my Morse manual to see if perhaps I was using the wrong size needle, but I was, in fact, using the right size. I don't think there was a little washer or anything that went onto the presser foot clamp...

This mystery is frustrating! I cannot figure out what is wrong. I've tried googling it with no luck. I'm hoping I don't have to take my machine in to the repair shop. If anyone has had this problem before, and can shed some light as to what is wrong, I would be forever grateful.

Thank you in advance :)

2009 IPRC Youth Zine Camp! [Jul. 6th, 2009|08:26 am]
Craft in Portland!

I'm not exactly sure if this belong here but it is Portland realted and I consider zines a craft. Plus, this is a pretty rad opportunity for young people to get involved with so I thought I might pass this on if you know any young people or are a young person in Portland and might want to check this out.

Zine Camp 2009!
Each summer, the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) hosts a group of youngsters for five sessions of day camp. During camp, the participants learn the how’s and whys of self-publishing, the history of zine making and technical skills in print arts and independent publishing. Each camper will make their own zine, meet real live zinesters, participate in a zine reading and attend the 9th annual Portland Zine Symposium as tablers.

The camp is located downtown at the Independent Publishing Resource Center (IPRC) in downtown Portland. There are two camps this year; Uncensored Youth and Zine Teens. The Teens group will meet from 12-4pm on Tuesdays and Fridays July 7th through the 24th, and the Youth will meet from 11-3 July 20th thru the 24th. The cost of camp is $125 with scholarships available.
Please contact A.M. O’Malley, IPRC Program Coordinator, at 503-827-0249 or iprcworkshops@gmail.com
